   THE FULL MONTY?

I'm thinking about auditioning for a part in "The Full Monty" next week at CenterStage in Louisville.  I'm planning to call the director later today to get more info about the auditions, including the performance dates, rehearsal schedule, and so on.

"The Full Monty" is a musical with a unique plot.  It involves six blue-collar men who resort to performance art (stripping) after they are laid off from their jobs.  As everyone knows, the play does contain some nudity.  I've been an artists' figure model for years, and am a nudist generally, so the idea of appearing on stage in the buff doesn't faze me.  It's actually the music that causes me some concern.  I've performed in musicals before, but singing is really not my strong suit.

     We shall see.....

Hi Matthew! I had wondered where you had got to! No doubt you will have fun throwing your cap at the audience! The Full Monty was an unexpected massive success. It was set in (bear with me if you know all this - maybe not all your readership do) Sheffield is a northern English ex-industrial city which traditionally prospered on steel. I can remember going to visit a Sheffield steel mill as a schoolboy. the mills were closed and the steel workers found themselves as unemplyment statitics, surrounded by other unemployment statistics as the nearby coalmines were closed down. Like most Yorkshire people I have enormous respect for the coal miners, brave dignified people, but the mines are no more and ex-mining areas have not found an alternative way to thrive, but I digress...
The Full Monty was a low budget film (movie to you) and the actors with the exception of Robert Carlyle were solid UK TV and theatre performers rather than big stars. I think just how successful it was amazed them as well as everybody else - obviously struck a chord.
By the way - if you haven't noticed it - I did a quite lengthy comment on US cricket on blog for you ;)

Hi Andrew....My cap, huh? I'm glad to know that I can always count on you to teach me some new terminology! And I thank you for your insights regarding "The Full Monty." It's very, very interesting to hear from someone who knows the true background to the story.

I did also notice your comment on cricket, and I thank you for that as well. Several people have told me how informative your comments were. I had no idea that cricket has such immense popularity. We are consumed with baseball in the states, but almost never hear of cricket. I'd love to see a game sometime.
